If you look up RK Motors Charlotte in a thesaurus, the first word you'll see is HEMI. That's because we've spent the past six years bringing Mopar fans the greatest array of exceptional Hemi powered cars ever offered for sale. Back in April of 2011 we sold this fully restored Plymouth "Super Bird":http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/top_sales#!/1970-Plymouth-Road-Runner-Superbird/132165 for $283K. Four months later, this numbers matching "Cuda":http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/top_sales#!/1970-Plymouth-HEMI-Cuda/131642 left our showroom for a cool $260K. And in March of this year, we set a new world record by shaking hands on our one of one "Dodge Charger":http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/sold#!/1970-Dodge-Charger-R-T/132890 for $290K! As you can tell, we've worked hard to become your number one source for world class Mopar muscle. And this award winning, magazine featured 1970 Plymouth Hemicuda continues our tradition of presenting you, the serious collector, with top notch investment cars. It features a numbers matching drivetrain, a concours detailed suspension and a super rare color combination all wrapped in a no holds barred restoration that was perfected by Mopar guru Roger Gibson. If you're looking for the ultimate Hemi muscle car to show and enjoy, your search is over!
Included with the sale of this factory accurate Cuda is copies of both the car's original Chrysler broadcast sheet and original window sticker. Below I've laid out all the options listed on the broadcast sheet, and for the sake of comparison, added prices from the window sticker in parentheses.
Assembled at Chrysler's Hamtramck, Michigan manufacturing facility on November 9th of 1969 and delivered to Holiday Chrysler-Plymouth in Austin, Minnesota, this spectacular Hemi Cuda is the beneficiary of a frame-off, reference grade restoration which was conducted by well-known Mopar guru Roger Gibson. That restoration, which took roughly three years to complete, utilized many NOS parts to return the car back to a 100% showroom fresh state; and in fact, its details are so accurate that it was featured, along with Roger Gibson's concours level work, in a three part Mopar Muscle tech article which is included with the sale. The build began with a low mileage, mostly complete shell that was fully documented by Chrysler expert Galen Govier. Once a factory blueprint was established, the car was shipped to Gibson's shop where it received a fresh pair of quarters and had every one of its surfaces meticulously worked back into shape. After those quarters were aligned, and that prep work finished, a spectacular coat of correct EF8 Ivy Green Metallic urethane was sealed in a glossy clearcoat shell and detailed with correct V6X Hemi side stripes. The result is one fantastically straight Cuda which looks as if it could have rolled out of Dodge Main yesterday!
Thanks to a 1970 redesign, the Cuda lost all commonality with its Valiant stable mate and finally traded its lowly economy car lineage for the badass muscle car image we all know and love. At the front of this sinister stoplight brawler, a traditional redline Cuda grille hangs crystal clear headlights between a showroom fresh chrome bumper, correct chrome trimmed driving lights, clear flush-fitting parking lights and an AACA Senior National First Prize plaque. At the top of the car a familiar, “hemicuda” branded shaker hood props two stainless hood pins in front of like-new tinted glass which is bordered by excellent looking stainless trim, showroom fresh drip rails and a chrome driver's race mirror. At the sides of the car, optional fender-mount turn signal indicators and pristine satin-finish door handles ride above dent-free wheel lip mouldings, hand detailed rocker gills and a trademark gold Chrysler pentastar emblem. And at the back of the car, a traditional satin black Cuda rear valence hangs like-new tail lights and a cool silver “'cuda” emblem above a second show worthy chrome bumper and correct stainless exhaust tips. Unlike most dressed and decaled cars, which tend to throw good taste out the window, this awesome Cuda seamlessly balances a ravenous personality with classic good looks to create a timeless muscle car with excellent appeal.
Under the green shaker hood, Roger Gibson's work was carried out to the highest standards using correct factory build techniques, date coded components and the car's original 426 cubic inch Hemi V8. As Chrysler's top option for power hungry gearheads this legendary elephant block, which is complete with its famous 2468330 casting number, a correct May 19th of 1969 casting date and a 186483 partial VIN, utilizes cast iron heads, an oversquare bore, a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons and a hydraulic camshaft to turn stout 10.25 to 1 compression into an advertised 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. All that high performance hardware is housed in a glossy, Hemi Orange four bolt block which hangs an attractive set of Organisol coated valve covers above correct low restriction exhaust manifolds. Fuel and air is supplied by two 4-barrel Carter AFB carburetors which are bolted to a high performance intake manifold. Compression is sparked by high quality Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires which are snapped onto a correct dual point distributor. And resultant combustion is cooled by a correct 26 inch heavy duty radiator which comes complete with fresh reproduction hoses, correct clamps and a correct fan shroud. Visually, the Ivy Green engine compartment is clean and understated… Well, as understated as an original, matching numbers HEMI can be. The car runs just as well today as when it rolled into Holiday Plymouth's showroom 42 years ago. And naturally, all the little details like stamps, decals, a reproduction Mopar red cap battery, a correct Chrysler windshield washer reservoir, and a high performance seven blade clutch fan have been accurately duplicated or completely restored.
Throw this solid Plymouth on a lift and you'll find a clean undercarriage that is so correct it appears to have been teleported straight out of 1970. The high powered big block churns torque through the car's original A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission which is branded with a correct E-body code, a matching 186483 partial VIN and an October 9th of 1969 build date. At the front of the car a factory accurate torsion bar suspension, which is complete with a thick sway bar, specially tuned shocks and correct Cosmoline coated control arms, helps increase drivability and lap times. And at the back of the car an 8.75 inch rear axle, which is stuffed with stout 3.55 gears, utilizes rebuilt leaf springs, a second pair of specially tuned shocks and a Sure Grip differential to ensure drama free launches. Braking is handled by heavy duty manual drums at all four corners. Steering feels firm and responsive thanks to a factory correct manual rack. Spent gases are whisked away by an aluminized true dual exhaust system which features an H-pipe crossover, correct resonators and correct replacement mufflers. And all this first rate hardware proudly stands on a set of 15 inch body-matched steel wheels which wrap new F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires around pristine Plymouth centerpieces. Aesthetically, the bottom of this 'Cuda is as close to original as it can get with correctly over sprayed floors, carefully orchestrated paint drips, correct marks, correct finishes and fully sorted detail work all precisely duplicating the cars documented, factory fresh appearance.
Swing open this Plymouth's solid closing doors and you'll find a well-executed, fully restored green vinyl interior which is simple, functional and looks as good as new. The front bucket and rear bench seats are showroom fresh and display no signs of wear at all. Below those seats, like-new green carpet anchors correct green lap belts just inside of pristine stainless sill plates. And above those seats a taut and wrinkle-free headliner, which is accented by a fully functional dome light, stretches from door to door and window to window. The optional console houses a correct factory shifter which looks great framed by new wood grain applique and a contoured design that never goes out of style. The fresh green dash features a correct optional Music Master AM radio and a fully rebuilt Rallye instrument cluster which includes both a tachometer and a continuous motion electric clock. And on the doors fresh, sculpted panels proudly hang the Cuda name above traditional chrome window cranks, integrated chrome door handles and cool chrome lock latches. In front of the driver, an attractive wood rimmed steering wheel provides both form and function. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk props a functional courtesy light and a correct decklid decal above a new mat, a correct jack assembly and a fresh Space-Saver spare tire.
This Mopar's show history is extensive, and its list of features and awards is extremely impressive:
