In the final chapter of the sixth-generation Camaro, Chevrolet paid tribute to one of its most ambitious racing ventures: the Garage 56 entry in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. To commemorate the return of a V8-powered stock car to Circuit de la Sarthe, Chevrolet released a highly limited Garage 56 Edition Camaro ZL1…just 56 examples were produced. This particular car isn't just one of those rare few, it was personally owned by 7-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson, who co-drove the #24 Camaro ZL1 NASCAR entry at Le Mans. Showing just 10 delivery miles, this is a collector-grade piece of racing and automotive history, straight from the hands of one of the sport's most iconic figures.
Finished in Riptide Blue Metallic, the car features a bold center stripe outlined in gold and a monochrome American flag graphic across the roof, with subtle yet meaningful additions: Garage 56 fender badges, NASCAR 75th Anniversary logos, and Hendrick Motorsports insignias on the sail panels. Satin-black mirrors, a carbon-fiber-trimmed fuel door, and Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tires on 20-inch dark graphite forged aluminum wheels complete the look. Additionally, this car includes optional race-inspired decals, a windshield NASCAR header, white Goodyear fender callouts, and the #24 on the doors, mirroring the exact car that ran at Le Mans.
Built off the fearsome Camaro ZL1, the Garage 56 Edition delivers 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque from Chevrolet's 6.2L LT4 supercharged V8. Power is routed through a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capabilities and Magnetic Ride Control suspension, delivering the kind of track-ready precision expected from a car bearing the ZL1 badge. But this special edition goes even further, borrowing aero components from the ZL1 1LE, including aggressive dive planes and a Cup-style wicker bill spoiler that nod directly to its endurance racing counterpart.
Inside, the ZL1 Garage 56 Edition balances performance and celebration. Standard Recaro sport seats are still fresh in the wrapper. Red contrast stitching gives it welcome, aggressive edge. Garage 56-badged floor mats also remain in their factory plastic. The suede-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel features a commemorative badge, and carbon fiber trim is used across the dash and shift knob. Optioned with the Performance Data Recorder, this car lets owners capture high-definition video and telemetry, making it a tool for serious track use.
The Garage 56 Edition package added $11,995 to the ZL1's base price, but the significance here goes far beyond the spec sheet. With just 56 built and this example owned by Jimmie Johnson himself, the car is tied directly to Chevrolet's historic Le Mans effort…a story that captivated motorsports fans around the world. Delivered with just 10 miles on the clock, this ZL1 is factory-fresh and historically significant. If you're a Camaro enthusiast, motorsport devotee, or collector of modern performance legends, it doesn't get much more exclusive than this.
