The 2008 Shelby GT500KR revived one of the most famous names in Mustang history: King of the Road. Built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1968 KR, it marked a renewed partnership between Ford's SVT division and Shelby Automobiles. Each KR began life as a GT500 coupe assembled at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan plant before being shipped to Carroll Shelby's facility in Las Vegas, where it received performance, handling, and visual upgrades worthy of its badge. Production was capped at just 1,000 cars for 2008, followed by 712 more in 2009, making a total of 1,712 modern KRs worldwide. Suspension tuning was a collaborative effort between Ford SVT and Shelby, featuring unique springs, dampers, sway bars, and geometry calibration for flatter cornering and sharper feedback. Stopping power comes from Brembo 14-inch front rotors with four-piston aluminum calipers and 11.8-inch vented rears, backed by Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires developed specifically for the KR.

Inside, the cabin keeps the premium GT500 layout but adds just enough Shelby flavor to make it feel special. The black leather seats feature GT500KR embroidery and remain in excellent condition, showing minimal wear. A serialized CSM dash plaque matches the underhood tag, and Shelby sill plates round out the subtle touches. The cue ball shifter gives a proper throwback feel, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and clean dash layout keep things focused on the drive.
