This 1969 Dodge Charger 500 represents a pivotal step in Dodge's pursuit of NASCAR supremacy. Developed to address the standard Charger's aerodynamic shortcomings at superspeedway speeds, the 500 introduced a flush-mounted grille and rear window that helped smooth airflow around the body. Built as a NASCAR homologation special, it preceded the winged Charger Daytona and earned its own place among Chrysler's celebrated aero cars. Although exact production totals remain disputed, the limited-production 1969 Charger 500 is a rare Mopar, with factory Hemi-equipped examples representing an even smaller group. This factory J-code Hemi example pairs that racing heritage with B5 Bright Blue Metallic paint, a blue bucket-seat interior and the A32 Super Performance Axle Package. A Galen Govier report supports its factory Hemi-equipped Charger 500 identity, while an extensive rotisserie restoration returned the Dodge to its original configuration.
Originally delivered to Massey Dodge in Jacksonville, Florida, this Charger later spent time in North Carolina and was converted to resemble a Daytona before being returned to Charger 500 form by StripMasters of Milton, Florida. Completed in 2011, the restoration retained the original doors, roof, deck lid, floors and quarter panels, with replacement front fenders and a replacement hood fitted during the conversion back. B5 Bright Blue Metallic highlights the sculpted hood, scalloped doors and broad rear quarters, complemented by a white transverse stripe carrying outlined 500 logos. The flush-mounted black grille features bright surrounds, exposed quad headlights and offset Charger 500 identification, while bright A-pillar moldings and aerodynamic rear glass distinguish the roofline. HEMI door emblems, hood-mounted turn-signal indicators, a chrome flip-top fuel cap and chrome bumpers add familiar Mopar details. And 15" Magnum 500-style wheels wear redline Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 radial tires.
Power comes from a 426ci Hemi V8 and is equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors, a Mopar Performance camshaft and electronic ignition. An A727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic sends power to a Dana 60 rear axle with 4.10 gearing and a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential. A 26" radiator, fan shroud and auxiliary transmission cooler support the drivetrain. Factory-style torsion-bar front suspension, a front anti-sway bar and leaf-spring rear suspension retain the Charger's traditional chassis layout, while power-assisted brakes with front discs handle stopping duties. Gray-painted floor pans, correct overspray and reproduced inspection markings extend the restoration's attention to detail beneath the car.
The blue vinyl interior features front bucket seats without headrests, a matching rear bench and coordinating door panels, carpeting and headliner. A woodgrain three-spoke steering wheel fronts the black instrument panel, which houses the optional Tic-Toc-Tach, a 150-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure and charging status. An additional Sunpro oil-pressure gauge is mounted beneath the dash. The center console combines woodgrain trim, bright accents and courtesy lighting with a chrome shift knob, retaining early-production details. A Chrysler solid-state AM radio, heater and defroster controls, manual windows and blue seat belts complete the cabin.
Accompanying documentation includes the Galen Govier report, a StripMasters ownership-history letter, restoration receipts and detailed photographs of the restoration. Its verified factory Hemi identity and distinctive NASCAR-developed body make this 500 a compelling opportunity for the collector seeking a significant Mopar from the height of the aero wars.
